Eric Carle Razzlin' Dazzlin' Words
This week we have been reading all "The Very" books by Eric Carle, like The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Busy Spider, The Very Lonely Firefly, etc. We've been collecting razzlin' dazzlin' words from the stories and we've made a thematic word wall to put all of the words we've found. Some of the words include: sparkling, encountered, grouchy, pesty, glittering, flooding, pop, and froth. I had the students during writer's workshop write a story that used at least one of their new razzlin' dazzlin' words. I was SOOO thrilled with what I received from my brilliant students! I'm hoping that some of my students will find time to post some of their wonderful stories!

Being a Fearless Speller
I thought I would help and clarify Amiracle's post. This week, my class all became super heroes. We are all Fearless Spellers (to get the effect you have to say that in your best super hero voice with your hands on your hip, pretending you are wearing a cape). This is just a new way of saying invented spelling, but its so much more fun. My kids have really caught onto it too! They basically just stretch out their words and write the sounds they hear. During writer's workshop the other day I was conferencing with one of my students who had signed up for a teacher conference and he started to ask me, "Ms. Smith, how do you spell..." and he caught himself, covered his mouth really fast, and then whispered with his hands at his hips "I'm a fearless speller". I could hardly control my excitement. I bragged and bragged on this student for being a fearless speller and so it began. I have fearless spellers in math, science, and reading. Its a teaching tool, adorably cute, and saving me TONS of time not having to spell every single word. My little kid-o's are so smart!

Drum Roll Please
Now introducing....Ms. Smith's Second Grade Class Blog! I got so addicted to blogging, I thought it would be a fun and unique way for my students to use technology and communicate with other students as well as their families. This blog is totally for them. Each week I have a class blogger that will be responsible for typing the post for the week. It will be up to them what they choose to write about. I will occasionally add a post about a trip or upcoming event. It should be fun to look back over our year and see how much we grew and all the neat stuff we learned.
Ms. Smith
